About this painting: Catalina Macaw 'Rainbow'
The Catalina is a hybrid of the Scarlet Macaw and Blue and Gold Macaw. These hybrids occasionally happen in the wild where territories overlap. Because Catalinas are a mixture of more than one type of macaw, the offspring are influenced by the traits and characteristics of both of its parents. Male's have the dominant gene, so this will generally influence the offspring's coloration and overall appearance. The personality of a Catalina may have the gentle nature and the speaking ability of the Blue and Gold Macaw or the more high strung nature of the Scarlet. Catalina’s are somewhat smaller and lighter than the Blue and Gold’s due to the influence of the smaller Scarlet Macaw parent.
