About this painting: Major Mitchell's Cockatoos "Proud Parents"
These pink cockatoos, were so named after the first scientist who identified them. They are found thriving in central Australia, and because of the remote habitat, are not endangered. The species is a true pink bird, even the eyes being a deep magenta-red. From the back, it is mostly white, with the body, underside of the wings and underside of the tail being a rich and true pink. Touches of orange In the crown and under the wings and tail add a brilliance to an otherwise softly colored bird. These truly beautiful creatures are rare anywhere outside of Australia. My only encounter with these splendid birds was in a bird breeding farm in south Florida. The pair was not for sale as they were being used for breeding purposes only. Their beauty is startling.
