About this painting: 'Swainsons Toucans' shown nesting and flying high in the Central American canopy. These are the second largest of the Toucans and inhabit Central and Northern South America in more humid regions. They are primarily fruit eaters except for breeding season when they will take protein in the form of insects, lizards and frogs. Both male and female incubate the eggs for about 15 days which are typically laid in a large tree cavity. They travel in small flocks up to 12 birds.
